Date: Friday 29 August 2025
Time: 2:00 pm
Location: 7 McKoy Street, Coopers Plains, QLD 4108

The Coopers Plains History Group (CPHG) and the Dutch Australian Cultural Centre (DACC) are pleased to announce the official unveiling of the name Dutch Houses Park’ in Coopers Plains. The ceremony will take place on Friday 29 August 2025 at 2:00 pm, with the official unveiling by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Australia Mrs Stoios-Braken.

This special event recognises the significance of the Dutch Houses in Coopers Plains’ recent history, an early post-war migration project in Brisbane. After World War II, the Queensland Government invited a Dutch company to help meet the demand for housing by building prefabricated houses for newly arrived migrants. The houses were designed in the Netherlands and much of the material and many of the workers also came from Holland, some of whom built homes they eventually lived in themselves. These distinctive houses became known locally as the Dutch Houses. They add to the long and rich history of Coopers Plains, the first crossroad of Brisbane, which marks its bicentenary next year.

Councillor Kim Marx (Runcorn Ward) will introduce the Ambassador and following the unveiling there will be a few short speeches. The event will conclude with a cake cutting. The park has BBQ facilities and a playground.

Members of the public are warmly invited to join this opening ceremony and learn more about this unique piece of Dutch–Australian history.
